Many Historic Buildings
“Probably around 40% of Australia’s pre-1840 urban buildings (as distinct from country buildings) are in Hobart, with around 50% in Greater Hobart and the small villages of southern Tasmania. Melbourne was only just getting started by then. In New South Wales, whilst Sydney has many important buildings remaining, the numbers have been enormously reduced by the forces of development and modernisation. Country NSW still has at least as many heritage buildings surviving as does country Tasmania,"
